When you apply for a job always make sure that your CV sells your skills and experience in the most effective way.  A functional CV format incorporates key skills, achievements and work experience but does not give specific dates.

Why use a functional CV layout?

If you want to change careers and  your current or previous jobs may be of no relevance to any future roles, a functional CV format will allow you to do this.

For example if you have had a number of jobs or a number of jobs in a different field or your work experience has been on a temporary basis, you can highlight skills and strengths rather than specific jobs.

A functional CV layout is also suitable if you are returning to work after a break.  Bear in mind though that if you are applying for a specific job a functional CV format may not be detailed enough.
