What Is Wellness?

Wellness is about becoming aware of your health and well being and consciously working towards becoming healthier and happier through mindful choice. It is not just about being free from illness, it is about being well in your mind and body; improving yourself through change.

Why It Matters

It is no secret that mental health issues are on the rise, with more and more people being signed off work with stress and depression than ever before.

Wellness is about the mind as much as it is about the body. Stress affects our immune system, so the two naturally come hand in hand. Every thing we do, each emotion we feel and each action we take relates to our well being.

Positivity breeds positivity, but equally negativity has the same effect. Wellness is about wanting to breed positivity, and it is up to the individual to encourage this in their own life.

The realisation that wellness is a choice is quite profound. Realising that we are in control of our own destiny, within reason, is something to be taken advantage of. What could be more rewarding than investing in yourself and your own happiness?

Different Aspects

For us to be truly happy and healthy, we need to focus on all aspects of our life. All play and no work can lead to financial distress, but equally what is the point in always working if it leads us to ill health through being too sedentary or not socialising enough.

wellness balances health spirituality and environment

Wellness is about finding a balance to suit you. A balance which, not only makes you happy, but also keeps you healthy.

The main aspects of wellness are lifestyle, environmental, occupational, financial, mental, physical, social and spiritual.

All of these aspects are interlinked and the ability to optimise on each area will maximise overall wellness.

Improving Wellness

By being more aware, we can improve our health. Being mindful of creating a healthy balance between work and play, diet and exercise, socialising and rest, will help to keep both our mind and body healthy.

The age old saying ‘a change is as good as a rest’ rings true to life. Variety is what we need as a race to be the best that we can be.
